| Para analizar la relación temporal entre los niveles de cortisol y los receptores a glucocorticoides (GR) en la placenta y su posible influencia en el aborto no infeccioso de las cabras, se registraron los cambios en el cortisol sanguíneo y en los GR del hígado de cabras adultas no gestantes (n = 5) y, además de los anteriores, en el hígado fetal y la placenta junto con los niveles de cortisol fetal de cabras gestantes (n = 24) bajo condiciones de estrés. Las cabras gestantes fueron: cinco de 40 a 50 días de gestación, seis de 51 a 75, cuatro de 76 a 100, tres de 101 a 125 y seis con más de 125 días de gestación. | RESUMO A placenta do cobaio, rato, camundongo e ratão do banhado (Myocastor coypus) foram estudadas e revelaram aspectos interessantes. A placenta nestas espécies é do tipo discoidal no início da gestação e após a união entre a mucosa uterina com as vilosidades coriônicas passa a ser do tipo hemocorial. O exame microscópico da placenta da cobaia e do ratão do banhado era do tipo multilobular, enquanto que a placenta do rato e do camundongo parece a metade de um lóbulo da placenta de cobaia e do ratão do banhado. Esta observação poderia ser uma prova para a evolução filogenética dos roedores. O exame microscópico da placenta dos roedores revelou passagem de linfócitos através dos trofoblastos embrionários para o feto, o qual precisa de imunidade placentária. |

| La placenta, anexo embrionario propio de los mamíferos placentados, imprescindible para la supervivencia embriofetal, está formada por la zona más superficial del endometrio y el corion, asociado con el saco vitelino o el alantoides, dependiendo de la especie. La placenta provee el intercambio gaseoso y nutricio entre la madre y el feto, secreta hormonas y posee propiedades inmunosupresoras. Existen diferentes criterios para clasificar la placenta; de acuerdo a la distribución de las vellosidades coriales de la placenta: difusa, cotiledonaria, zonaria y discoidal; de acuerdo a las características histológicas de la placenta: epiteliocorial, sindesmocorial, endoteliocorial y hemocorial. |

| A cutia é um roedor silvestre, encontrado no sul da América Central e em regiões tropicais da América do Sul, principalmente nas regiões norte, nordeste e sudeste do Brasil. Estes animais fornecem proteína de origem animal e por isso, apresentam importância sócio-econômica para as regiões do norte e nordeste do Brasil. Para o presente trabalho foram utilizadas sete placentas de cutias (Dasyprocta aguti), em diferentes fases da gestação. Nos aspectos morfológicos a placenta da cutia apresenta uma forma esférica e uma estrutura lobada estando conecta ao útero através da mesoplacenta. O fluxo sangüíneo fetal flui do interlobo para o centro do lobo, ou seja, centripetamente, enquanto que o materno flui centrifugamente. |

| The present study aimed to investigate visceral adipose tissue-specific serpin (vaspin) concentrations in serum and term placentas and relate these values to insulin resistance and lipid parameters in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). | Pre-eclampsia is a serious pathological state affecting 5-10% of pregnant women. Currently, it is diagnosed in the second half of pregnancy, particularly after the 20th week. Symptoms mostly correspond to the changes of blood vessels and kidneys. The severity of pre-eclampsia is proportional to symptomatic manifestations, thus the more symptoms present, the higher is of pre-eclampsia development. Although there are several studies dealing with pre-eclampsia pathology, the complete etiology is still unknown. In this review paper, several theories are presented and discussed. |

| Avaliaram-se as respostas clínica e metabólica de potros neonatos em relação aos achados histopatológicos da placenta na égua. Foram avaliados dois grupos de éguas da raça Puro Sangue Inglês - um grupo-problema (n=25) e um grupo-controle (n=25), de acordo com os achados da placenta. O exame dos potros constou de avaliação clínica geral, hematologia e bioquímica sérica. O exame histopatológico da placenta apresentou resultado compatível com a apresentação clínica do potro, sendo que a presença de lesões inflamatórias resultou na produção de potros debilitados. A presença de lesões degenerativas não comprometeu o estado clínico do neonato, mas pode ser responsável pela manifestação de distúrbios subclínicos, evidenciados pelo aumento das taxas de AST e GGT.... |

MMP9 and uPA are key proteases in this process, but it is still not clear the regulation of its expression by Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-β), a known negative regulator of trophoblast invasion.
